MLB Spotlight: 4 Top Prospects in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game
Held annually during the MLB All-Star break, the All-Star Futures Game involves the top prospects from the American League (AL) versus the National League (NL). Since moving to this format in 2019, the NL holds a 3-1-1 record, including a 6-1 victory in the 2024 All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
Here are some of the top future stars who participated in the 2025 All-Star Futures Game, held on July 12 at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia.
Leo De Vries (San Diego Padres)
The lone representative from the San Diego Padres, switch-hitting shortstop Leo De Vries was No. 3 on MLB's top-100 prospect rankings, behind only Chase Burns (Cincinnati Reds) and Roman Anthony (Boston Red Sox), both of whom were already playing in the big leagues when the rosters were announced. Signed by San Diego for $4.2 million in 2024, De Vries, 18, is the youngest qualifying player in High-A this season. At the time of his selection, he had five home runs, 35 RBI, and a .246 batting average in 64 games with Fort Wayne in the Midwest League.
De Vries made his debut in the Padres minor league system at just 17 years old with Single-A Lake Elsinore in 2024, hitting .237 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI. MLB and Baseball America rated him as a top 20 prospect before the start of the 2025 season.
Jesús Made (Milwaukee Brewers)
The No. 8 prospect in MLB, Jesús Made is a versatile infielder from the Dominican Republic who just turned 18 in May. Baseball America rated him as the 17th-best prospect, one spot ahead of De Vries, before the 2025 season. He is in his debut season with the Carolina Mudcats of the Single-A Carolina League, but played 51 games in 2024 with the Brewers' Dominican Summer League team, hitting .331 with six home runs and 28 RBI.
Sebastian Walcott (Texas Rangers)
Another talented infielder, Sebastian Walcott is the Texas Rangers' top prospect and is ranked No. 4 leaguewide by MLB. Born in Nassau, Bahamas, the 19-year-old is already in his third season in the Rangers minor league system and was playing for Double-A Frisco at the time of his selection. He hit .261 with 10 home runs and 49 RBI in 116 games with the Hickory Crawdads in the High-A South Atlantic League last season.
Kevin McGonigle (Detroit Tigers)
One of three players in the Detroit Tigers minor league system selected to the All-Star Futures Game, Kevin McGonigle is a 20-year-old shortstop and second baseman who hit .309, with five home runs and 44 RBI in 74 games in Single-A and High-A last season. The Tigers selected him in the first round, 37th overall, in the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft out of Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast High School in Pennsylvania.
